Sunset from Eldfell
Sunset over the town of Heimaey from Eldfell. This volcano erupted in 1973 and is the most recent volcanic eruption on the island.

Puffins
Puffins are a common sight in Heimaey this time of year–nesting season. The baby puffins can be confused by the city lights and fly into town instead of to the ocean. Children can be seen collecting them in boxes in order to take them to the ocean for release.

Field Trip
The scientific team on Heimaey to a trip out to the south part of Vestmannaeyjar. At this location, there are similar deposits to those found on Surtsey.
