Lava Spattering
View is of the inside of the eastern crater on Surtsey island. The walls of this crater are made of many layers of basaltic rock.

Bomb Sags

These bomb sags are bomb sized (> 64 mm) fragments of erupted material that have fallen onto a mixture of ash and water. The deformation caused by this event was preserved as the rock solidified. This particular bomb slid in the wet ash deposits before coming to a stop.

Seals

Tephra Layers
Layers of tephra deposited during the eruption and formation of Surtsey island. The deposited layers are offset by fractures that have since filled with other material.
